Lincoln Navigator problem
Technical Service Bulletins issued by Lincoln contain up-to-date factory fixes
for difficult to diagnose problems such as rough idles, intermittent stalls, hard
starts, and all kinds of "shakes", "rattles" and "clunks" that are often bothersome.
TSBs describe service procedures that may improve performance, reduce future breakdowns,
or show a factory authorized modification for your vehicle. Problems on the Navigator
arise like when Ford broke off a longterm relationship with Firestone in 2001
after a disastrous round of rollovers on its Explorer SUVs.

Ford blamed the problem on Firestone while Firestone said the Expedition design
was faulty. On February to September 2000 about 1,083,000 units of Lincoln Navigators'
switch located in the plastic cover of the wiper motor gear case could malfunction
and overheat, which could possibly result in loss of intermittent wiper function,
loss of wiper park function, complete loss of wiper function, or ignition of the
plastic cover material. Switch malfunction is most likely to occur when the intermittent
setting of the wipers is being used, or when snow or ice obstructs the blades
from returning to the "parked" position at the bottom of the windshield. Loss
of visibility while driving increases the risk of a crash. Motors built with the
suspect time frame will have the wiper motor gear case cover replaced. That same
year, about 565,800 Navigators were affected with the problem of trailer hitch
assembly to the frame attaching bolts could lose the clamp load. Dealers were
instructed to replace the trailer hitch mounting bolts and nut plates.
